A worn path
“A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty, is a short story about an old black woman named Phoenix Jackson who faces many hardships. She has many problems because she is uneducated, she is a black woman, and she has a low status in society. All of hardships which she is faced in her circumstance affect her to think her back. In this story, her personality is somewhat ambivalent, but even though she is under the hardest circumstances, she sometimes has an optimistic view of life. Every place she goes and every people she meets is related to the theme of this story; her hardship life as a black woman and grandmother who has ill son. Even though the main character has a strong to help her grandson, she allows her lack of education and low status change her own self-image.
First, Phonenix’s appearance is typical country old woman even she is a person in rags. The author describes her as a pitiful and weak old person. In this story, Phoenix says, “do all right for out in the country,…(省略)
